Born – 7/28/05
Died – 1/06/06

Liam arrived at 12:39am weighing only 3.5lbs. He was only 29 weeks. He was born with an unbalanced av canal. Which is a congenital heart defect. About 40,000 children every year are born with a congenital heart defect. It is the number one cause of death from birth defects in the first year of a child’s life. Nearly twice as many children die from congenital heart defects than all the childhood cancers combined. (American Heart Association). Liam was one of these children afflicted with this condition. Liam died on January 7, 2006 at the age of 5 months. He left behind four sisters, Keeley, Michaela, Riley and Ashleen. During his 5 precious months Liam had endured operations, infections and tons of tests. Liam wasn’t just a number part of the above statistic, he was our baby. He was a marathoner, he ran the race of a lifetime. In five months he brought so much love to his family. He amazed us everyday he was here with his strength and resilience. There were so many times that we could have lost him, but he always managed to persevere. The life that Liam lived in five months was more than some live in a lifetime. He touched so many people daily and was loved by so many. Liam loved music and the sound of his family’s voices. He was born a red sox fan. And more importantly made a difference in everyone’s lives who came to know him.

Our vision of liam’s fund:

To make every cardiac child’s life as normal as possible. Most children have extended stays in the hospital. We want to make that stay as tolerable as possible. Whether this is through having music in their rooms. (music has proven to be a therapeutic answer to helping with pain). Or playstations, xbox games, books. Anything to get their mind off even for a minute what they may be dealing with. In addition, helping their families with what needs they may have. (ie. Food, parking, etc)

So far we have raised $11,000 for Liam’s fund. Through our event and many donations.

We had a skating event on April 2nd. It was called ‘Skate for Liam’ we raised $8000.00 in an hour and half. It was a huge success. We had about 400 people and children come. We will be doing this annually.

Our next fundraiser is Oct 20, 2006. It is a Halloween Dance Party at the Annex Club in East Haven. Click here for more.
